any way to make sure a buff/effect/national spirit works without having to export/download/start the game to see if it works and then see it doesnt work or the focus tree is glitched and bugged?

and how do national spirits work cuz its either the icon only or buff only or neither / adding spaces for making factions etc (research buffs and time  reduction too)

The only way to tell if something works is through the game unfortunately, as that's the only thing which can 100% accurately tell if your mod's code is valid or not.

It depends what you're trying to do with your national spirits. But they should allow both effects and icons, the only reason this wouldn't happen is if the code behind them is invalid.

If you're sure something should work, but doesn't, if you run your game in debug mode, and share the error log, I'll happily help solve the issue.
