Solved.

Recently I got into making my own country in HOI4 using this website, and wanted to make some national spirits.

However, for some reason I cannot see the national spirit in - game. 

I checked the txt files for the national spirit comparing it to a base game national spirit, and saw nothing different.

I suspect this is a naming issue, but I haven't figured out if that's the case. If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated!

Simply put, what you need to do is add the focus to the country. 

This can be done in anywhere. What I did was type the focus into the country history txt file. Example:

add_ideas = IDEA_ID

The history txt localization is (Hearts of Iron IV > mod > your mod > history > countries). You may be able to even put it into the list of focuses that start when you start the game. (You should have a standard list, which should look like this:)

add_ideas = {

disarmed_nation

civilian_economy

}

Only thing I noticed is that if you export your mod, download the zip, and unpack it you will need to add that line of text again sadly.
