[12/12/2020] Site rework now available

After almost two months in the works, this site is finally available.

Currently, the only sections of the site which have been updated are the Focus Tree tool, the forums, and the account section. However, much more is in the works.

Site-wide changes:

  • Localisation support - The site has been rewritten from the ground up to open up for different languages to be used on the site.
  • Help text - Input boxes will sometimes show an "" icon next to them. Hover over the icon for more information about what sort of value is expected here. A "Help" button will also be shown in the sidebar on some pages, this button will allow you to learn more about what certain buttons/sections do.
  • Account - The account page now looks a little different. You now have the option to display a few different social media links, should you wish to. And visiting someone else's account page, you will be able to add them to your mod's team.
  • Mod - Instead of creating your mod when you go to create a focus tree (or anything else, when future tools are available), you will now create your mod first, in the mods section, then use that mod in tools elsewhere.
  • General style - And of course, the hardest one to miss, the layout of the site has changed a fair amount. With font-size increases, and general layout changes where needed, a lot of little things have changed.

Focus tree tool updates/changes:

  • Creating/Updating focuses - The page will no longer reload after updating/creating a focus, to help with page speed.
  • Builder overhaul - The builder has had a massive overhaul. No longer using drag and drop, you can now press the + button to add a new output, outputs will be indented nicely and will keep linebreaks/indentation upon submission. And now, when going to edit a reward, or other field, the builder will re-populate with all outputs previously added
  • Focus relation overhaul - The relationship builder, for prerequisites and mutually exclusives, has been changed to use a grouping system. Where each item in the group are required, and items in separate groups are optional between them. In addition to this, the groups will re-populate upon editing.
  • In-tool bug reporting - When reporting a bug through the focus tree tool, the site will also capture a screenshot of what the screen looked like, to help aid with your bug report.

Forum updates:

  • Post creation update - Instead of being in a specific forum to create a post there, you can now create your posts from anywhere, and post in a completely different forum. Read something in a thread on general chat that you think should be on the site? You can add to a new post to Site Suggestions from that very thread.
  • Notifications - Notifications were never really great. You didn't know if someone had replied until you logged in to the site, and when you did log in you had to navigate to an ugly page. Well, now you get an email when there's been a new reply to a thread you're in, and the notifications appear in a small popup on the menu, instead of their own ugly page.
  • Files and image - You can now upload files to the forum. Whether it's an image, an error log, or a focus tree file, you can now upload these to the forum, using "Upload" button, in the text editor's menu.

With all new updates to the site, you can expect to see new updates on the homepage, or under the "Site Updates" section of the forum.

A minor update will be coming out within the next week to add German localisation across the site, as the start point for more language options to come in the future. If you are bilingual, and would like to help make the site more accessible to non-English speakers, please get in touch!

If you encounter any issues or have any suggestions, you can reply in the respective forums, linked.

If you have any questions or queries about any of the updates mentioned above, drop a reply below, and I'll try to respond as soon as possible.

sorry

Anyway to port our mods from the old site over to the new one?

The only way to do this is to export your focus tree from the old site, create a mod on the new one and import the files from the old site here.

Gotta say im really loving the new layout and look.

I don't like the new Focus tree tool,
1- Moving the focus technic is buggy and doesn't work sometimes.
2- When i upload a GFX for a focus, i can't use the GFX before i reload the page.
3- i can't create Focuses easily like before now, now i have to write the x,y and other fields, i wish that you edit it and make it like the old site.
4- the focus size is very big, i hope that you make it smaller.
5- when i upload a GFX for the focus tree, i have to select the GFX i've uploaded, i hope that you make it apply automaticlly.
I prefer the old website,
Please tell me that it will remain and will not be deleted? i hope that you won't cancel it.. you don't have to update it, just keep it working, and i'm working on some big and important trees, i don't wanna lose my data.

Can you give a way to replicate this, including browser and operating system; and I'll look into it

2- When i upload a GFX for a focus, i can't use the GFX before i reload the page.

-Imperialist

This shouldn't be the case, the new GFX should add to the GFX list; again, if you can provide browser & OS I'll look into this.

3- i can't create Focuses easily like before now, now i have to write the x,y and other fields, i wish that you edit it and make it like the old site.

-Imperialist

I'm not sure what you mean by this, the old tool required the X & Y value too

4- the focus size is very big, i hope that you make it smaller.

-Imperialist

The fouses should be the same size. However, the font size may be larger; this can be reduced by editing the font size for the site in your details (on your account page)

5- when i upload a GFX for the focus tree, i have to select the GFX i've uploaded, i hope that you make it apply automaticlly.

-Imperialist

As with the other GFX issues, provide browser and OS, and I'll look into why this isn't happening for you, and fix (this should already be the case)

The old website won't be going anywhere until all the tools have been updated, and all issues (like the ones you have mentioned) are resolved. This site is meant to improve upon the old one, if there are features missing, the old site will still remain.

Once this site is better than the old one, with all the same features and less of the issues, then this site will replace it on the url hoi4modding.com, and the old site will be kept available for some time (not sure how long yet) on a different url; so that people can continue working on the old site, without migrating to the new one.

Thank you very much, your work is very creative and nice, I wish you all the luck!

I use Google Chrome on Windows 10 Home 64-bit.

About the x,y thing, when you add a focus on the old website, it automatically sets the x,y to 0,0 or 1,1, and you click save then you move the focus by the mouse.. that's what I meant, it would be easier and faster.

About the focus moving technic, you have to put the mouse on a specific zone at the focus to be able to move it, I think that specific zone is small or you must expand it, because a lot of times when I want to move a focus i try 2 or more times until i start moving it( because I'm working very fast ) I didn't have that issue in the old website.

Your new website is amazing and I love it, I just hope that you edit these small things I wrote to you.

Thanks very much for your care, very much appreciated.

I've changed out the drag listener to be the same as on the old site, which appears to have resolved the issue on some browsers where only parts of the focus would be able to be dragged.

In addition to this, X&Y values on new focuses are set to 0,0.

Depending on how strictly your browser caches Javascript, you may need to press CTRL+R for these changes to show.

Please let me know if there's more changes you think should be added.

When i try to add a focus, it asks me for the search filters as required field, please make it unrequired
And i can't delete a focus, that's weird.. there's no delete option
And once i create a new focus i can never move it before i choose a picture for the focus.
In general, the focus moving technic is still very buggy, i can't move a focus
and once i upload a picture for the focus, i can't apply it before i reload the page .... even if i go to the gfx list, i still have to reload to get it work
Another thing, depending on the picture of the focus , the size of the focus gets bigger or smaller.. please edit this and make it like the old website.
